Since 1984 when the first Gremlins movie was released, it’s gripped the loved of fans and become somewhat of a cult classic.
Though the sequel, Gremlins 2, didn’t do much justice to fans, many have wanted another movie ever since.
It’s been 30 years since Gremlins 2 was released in 1990 and as the days roll by, we’re getting closer and closer towards just that.
Writer Chris Columbus told us a third installment in the Gremlins franchise is on the way, but that wasn’t all.
Many fans have expressed concern that the movie will deviate from it’s previously used puppets and go for a CGI Gremlins movie, but Colombus put everyone at ease by stating that physical puppets will be used, but they may use CGI to make puppetry easier.
“Oh, without a doubt, minimal CGI,” Columbus said, “CGI will enable us to remove wires and make the puppeteers lives a little easier. It was brutal. It was like a marathon every night for those guys. In the bar scene alone there were 18 to 20 people behind the bar. No one had any space to move. It was just hellish for those guys, so CGI will simplify that a little bit but it’s all puppets.”
Further more, it’s been made clear that the next installment will be a reboot and not a follow on from either of the first two movies.
“I’m really proud of the script,” Columbus said. “It is as twisted and dark as anything, so we’ll see. It’s always a budgetary conversation when we’re going to shoot it. I wanted to go back to the really twisted sensibility of the first movie. I found that was a very easy place for me to fall back into and start writing again so hopefully we’ll see that movie soon.”
