The 16th Century Bhangarh Fort is said to be one of the most haunted places in India and it’s illegal to visit the castle after dark due to the paranormal danger that occurs there.
There are a few variations on the story of why Bhangarh Fort is so haunted, but there’s no question the supernatural presence there is plentiful and both stories claim a curse was placed on the structure.
The first story is of the beautiful princess Ratnavati who caught the attention of a tantrik priest who was very knowledgeable about the dark arts and magic. Eventually he fell in love with her, but knowing he likely didn’t have a chance the the princess, he was said to cast a spell on her perfume so she fell in love with him.
The princess of Bhangarh Fort discovered what he’d done and threw the bottle. In one version she ordered to have him killed, while another version says she thew the bottle at him but it turned into a boulder and crushed him. Just before the priest’s death, he was said to put a curse on the princess, her family and the village.
The alternate story involves more to do with the construction of Bhangarh Fort. Guru Balu Nath, an ascetic that meditated, only granted permission for the construction if the Fort didn’t cast a shadow on his place of meditation.
Unfortunately, the Fort did cast a shadow over his place of serenity, thus Nath cast a spell on the village and buildings there would have to remain roofless. Even today if a roof is built on a building there, it soon collapses.
Which ever is true or if there’s another reason, the paranormal activity there has earned Bhangarh Fort a place on the list for the most haunted places in the world.
ASI stipulates that visitors are forbidden from going anywhere near the vicinity after sunset and legal action will be taken on anyone who doesn’t abide by the restriction.
The Fort is riddled with screams, crying voices, other sounds and strange smells. There have also been many reports of apparitions, the unusual sound of music as well as strange lights.
There have also been reports of bangles clanging together in the rooms. Some visitors who disobey the rules and decide to spend the night there for their paranormal research of just as thrill-seekers have failed to survive the night. Would you visit the fort?
