Built in 1078 by William the Conqueror, the Tower served as a prison among other uses for the majority of its existence until 1952, as well as being the residence of the Royal Family.
Visitors have reported ghost sightings for many years including apparitions, shadow anomalies and even clear faces in photos when no one else was present in the picture.
Many people have reported seeing her headless body walking the corridors as well as her being spotted near her execution site. She’s also been seen leading a procession down the aisle of a chapel.
Other reports from people claiming to see the ghost of Anne Boleyn include her walking with her own severed head under her arm and even how she was before her death… Young, happy and beautiful.
More recently, two skeletal remains were found in the tower. Discovered in 1938, the skeletons are believed by historians to be the the remains of Edward V and, his brother, Richard of Shrewsbury, Duke of York.
Aged 9 and 12 years old, they were locked in the tower by their uncle, Richard III. Though it is not confirmed, a common hypothesis is that they were murdered by their uncle in an attempt for him to secure his throne.
Their deaths likely occurred in 1483, but their remains were discovered in the 20th century and the stories of their ghosts haunting the tower are still prevalent.
