With so much attention on places like Waverly Hills Sanatorium and Suicide Forest in Japan for the most haunted locations, most people seem to over-look our number two pick for the most haunted forest in the world, Hoia Baciu in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
Situated just a few hours drive from Dracula‘s home of Transylvania, Hoia Baciu forest is a hot-spot for both paranormal and suspected extra-terrestrial activity. We’ll cover the UFOs and extra-terrestrial links in another article, but for now, let’s focus on what makes this Romanian hideaway that conceals some strange supernatural events.
Supposedly named after a shepherd that went into the forest with his flock of 200 sheep and never returned, Hoia Baciu is surrounded with mystery that scientists simply can’t explain. More specifically, there is an area in the center of the forest that has been named ”The Notorious Circle”.
It’s an area where no vegetation can grow and even after soil samples and scientist investigations, there is absolutely no explanation why this area is off limits to plants and trees. Further more, this part of Hoia Baciu forest was the exact area where a 5-year-old girl ran off from a picnic with her parents and disappeared. Despite an exhausting police search, it appeared that she has just vanished into thin air.
Years later, a local noticed a young girl walking out the forest in tears. It was the young girl who had vanished years ago, but what’s really strange is that she was wearing the exact same clothes she had on when she disappeared and she hadn’t aged at all. (A History of Mystery have reached out to Romanian police to verify the exact details of this story).
The Forest itself has unexplainable tree growth, ranging from irregular growth direction and trees merging as one as if they became welded together. Others grow into two trees and then rejoin back into one trunk higher up. The vegetation is just overall peculiar.
The forest itself has an eerie feeling about it and there have been countless reports of apparitions, movements and shadows when no one else is around. Many have captured pictures on their cameras and smart phones of faces and figures that arouse a ghost hunter’s suspicions. If that still doesn’t qualify as earning Hoia Baciu the top spot for the most haunted forest on earth, then these might…
In addition to all the strange and unexplained events, from disappearing people who seem to experience extended time-dilation and an area where vegetation can’t grow that has scientists baffled, there have been many visitors and ghost hunters whom have reported anxiety, vomiting, migraines and even physical harm including burns, scratches and one person was even thrown to the flown by an invisible force.
Electrical devices regularly malfunction in the forest, there have been reports of missing time, sometimes for extended periods of time and many have called it the ”Bermuda Triangle” of Romania. Some people believe that the notorious circle is a gateway to another dimension.
With all this combined and the fact we haven’t even mentioned the UFO and extra-terrestrial reports surrounding Hoia Baciu, we consider this the most haunted forest in the world, even more so than Aokigahara.
