Welcome to our list of the top 10 most haunted places in the world. Unlike many lists that have been built with a simple Google or Youtube search, we actually know our paranormal stuff and there’s not much we haven’t heard of. Out of hundreds of candidates, we’ve complied our list from the top haunted places in the world to bring you the best list.
Though some places may have many more ghosts than others, we’ve taken many things into account to compile the list. From places with the most ghosts to violent poltergeists and spirits that have physically attacked people.
#10 – The Stanley Hotel, Colorado, USA – See More ↗️
The Stanley Hotel is considered one of the most haunted places in America and is home to the ghosts that inspired Stephen King’s The Shining when he stayed there. With decades of ghost sightings and even the most clear pictures even taken of a ghost, the Stanley Hotel couldn’t be left off a top 10 most haunted list.
#9 – The Catacombs in Paris – The Most Haunted Place in France ↗️
With 7 million bones buried below the streets of Paris, France is there any wonder mystery and hauntings await? The Catacombs under the street of Paris are considered by some as the most haunted place in France.
#8 – Waverly Hills Sanatorium, Louisville, Kentucky, USA – Most Haunted Hospital ↗️
Waverly Hills Sanatorium was once considered the most haunted place on earth. With its history as a tuberculosis hospital, similar to Poveglia Island, it housed the sick and mentally ill, many of which died on site and there have been numerous reports of ghosts, unexplained sounds and paranormal phenomena.

Glamis Castle in Scotland has a rich royal history of mystery. It’s haunted by the ghosts of Earl Beardie, the Grey Lady and many more that have been reported by hundreds of visitors, this might just be the most haunted castle on the entire planet.
#6 – Ancient Ram Inn, England – Full Story ↗️
Built on the intersection of two Ley lines and an ancient Pagan burial ground, the Ancient Ram Inn in Gloucestershire has become one of the most haunted places in the world. With children’s skeletons found and evidence of devil worship and ritual killings, is there any wonder it’s so haunted? Locals refuse to even walk past the Inn at night and guests have run out screaming.

Greyfriars Kirkyard is a graveyard just a minute walk from the haunted Edinburgh Vaults and is home to Bloody MacKenzie who slaughter hundreds of people in his day. MacKenzie’s spirit was awoken when his mausoleum was disturbed. He haunts the graveyard and causes burns and scratches to skin of visitors and has even broken people’s fingers.

Known as Europe’s most violent poltergeist, 30 East Drive is the home to the Black Monk ghost that tormented a family for years, tore apart their home, scared them half to death, and even dragged a young girl up the stairs. This little house in Pontefract is became one of the most haunted houses in the country.

Now off-limits to the public without special permission, Poveglia island in Italy is the most haunted island in the world with a history of the Black Plague, mental illness and a notorious doctor who turned his patients into guinea pigs with dark experiments. The island is loaded with ghosts and a majority of the soil are ashes of the deceased who’s bodies were burned by the thousand. Visitors have reported physical violence, being choked and even pushed off the edge of the island into the ocean.

Undoubtedly the most haunted house in the world, the ghosts of Borley Rectory have driven generations out the property. One woman was ripped out of bed, slapped round the face and had things thrown at her. The ghosts have smashed windows and started fires. One ghost, Sunex Amures, threatened that the house would burn down and that’s exactly what happened.

Also known as Suicide Forest at the base of Mount Fuji in Japan, Aokigahara Forest has a dark energy that draws people into its deepest parts. Aokigahara made our #1 spot because its unexplained phenomena has influenced hundreds of people visit and commit suicide. It is the only place that we know of where paranormal phenomena is responsible for hundreds of deaths.
There are so many choices when developing a list for the top 10 most haunted places in the world that some get left behind, so we thought it would be necessary to share a couple more honorable mentions that didn’t quite make the cut;
The Tower of London, England ↗️
The Tower of London is full of ghosts from its rich history as a prison and dungeon. There are many reasons this should be in a top 10 list, but we placed this at #11.
The Edinburgh Vaults, Scotland ↗️
We really wanted to include the Edinburgh Vaults in our top 10 most haunted list, but there just wasn’t enough room. The Vaults are absolutely terrifying.
The Haunted Hellfire Caverns, England ↗️
England’s Hellfire Caverns have a history of satanic, devil worship, the Hellfire club and much more, making them extremely haunted. They even sit over Ley lines like the Ancient Ram Inn and may be fed spiritual energy from Stonehenge.
