Exploring the hidden tunnels under the Sphinx in Egypt
With seismic surveys showing a vast array of unexplored tunnels and chambers underneath the Sphinx, German robotic engineer Rudolf Gantenbrink sent in his technology for a closer look, but his exploration soon came to a halt when he made a discovery of something that dated back long before Egyptian civilization.
Gantenbrink and his team sent a robot into a 8 x 8 inch tunnel. The robot was equipped with cameras, lights and tank-like caterpillar tracks.
The robot crawled for 200ft through shafts until it reached a mysterious end. It appeared to have reached a door made of either limestone or marble material.
The team also discovered two copper handle-like pieces of metal on the door which in itself is strange as there is no trace of copper anywhere else in the Sphinx or on the site of the pyramids.
Despite Gantenbrink’s humility in offering to give the authorities the robot and train Egyptian technicians to operate the equipment and open the door, the robotics engineer and his team were banned by authorities and the entire discover was labeled as a hoax.
The director of the German Archaeological Institute, Dr. Rainer Stadelmann, strangely sided with Egyptian authorities and insisted it wasn’t a door and there was nothing behind it.
There have been thousands of petitions signed, accusing the Egyptian government of “hiding possible findings that could be of great importance to all members of the human race”, which was covered by the NYTimes.
With the exploration of the Sphinx being blatantly banned, the truth of the discovery may not be revealed and will remain another unsolved mystery.
What do you think lies beneath the secret tunnels and chambers under the Sphinx? Do you think it’s just a hoax and empty bare tunnels or do you think there lies evidence that could shake human understanding of ancient civilizations? Let us know in the comments below.
