The first question most people have when they see the term ”ASI” is, what does it mean? ASI stands for Artificial Superintelligence, but more accurately it’s a digital superintelligence.
Explained in the simplest way possible, artificial superintelligence is a program that would have the ability to gather all of humanity’s knowledge from the internet while being able to learn and test at the speed of a powerful computer.
Now, take that superior computing power, add all of humanity’s knowledge and give it the ability to learn and test that knowledge, make decisions, solve problems and create new ideas, theories and technologies and you will have a digital superintelligence, closing the gap between computers and human consciousness.
What could an artificial superintelligence accomplish and what are its uses?
For example, a doctor can’t read every single medical report that’s published, making it impossible for a doctor to know everything that’s tried, tested, as well as reports and all developments in the field of medicine, but an ASI wouldn’t have that restriction because it could ”read” all the digital files in minutes and become smarter than every doctor in the world combined. It would also process all new piece of research the moment it’s published.
This would not only create a superintelligent doctor that has far more data than any one human, but it would be able to cross reference this data and test millions and millions of combinations of medicines and treatments in a simulation. Further more, this digital super-doctor could duplicate itself and be anywhere in the world in a second through the internet.
The power of this is hard to describe, but it could probably cure cancer in minutes and make death optional for humans through indescribable advancements that would seem alien to us in the 21st century.
Using the same strategy as mentioned about, the ASI would be able to combine the knowledge of all existing technology and build on that to create superior technology and a rate humans could never do.
As we know, new technology is developed on top of existing technology.
Electric > Computers > Internet > Instant worldwide communication
That’s just one example of technology using technology to progress exponentially, but an ASI would be able dwarf human speed in an unimaginable way.
An ASI would change our entire existence and sling-shot us hundreds or even thousands of years into the future in a few short months which is why there is an incredible amount of funding going into artificial intelligence and the development of an ASI.
It would be able to manage our entire farming and agriculture infrastructure flawlessly. It would be able to solve poverty and economic problems we still can’t seem to overcome. It would be able to run billions of simulated tests for nearly any situation or scenario, thus giving us answers which, without ASI, would be decades away.
Now imagine this power was uploaded to the human brain with neuralink. We would become super-intelligent humans. Join the discussion and let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
