With the development of ASI being such a hot topic and the development advancing exponentially, bringing a digital superinteliigence closer and closer to being achieved, many people are worried about the risk involved in such technology.
The concern is not without good reason though because an ASI would become more powerful and intelligent than every human combined just shortly after its development. See the full details of an artificial superintelligence here.
A dystopian future is possible and without extremely strict measures, proactive planning and security, it’s very likely to occur.
Creating an ASI and ”flipping the switch” to turn it on would be a decision that will change humanity one way or the other. We have covered the best case scenario here, but let’s look at the worst case scenario.
Whether the ASI is requested by us or does it off its own initiative, finding a way to solve the problems humanity faces may result in the conclusion that humanity is the problem and it will arrive at the best solution being to wipe us out. Alternatively, an ASI may want to wipe out humans for its own benefit as we’re just biological beings, susceptible to infection, draining the planet’s resources and slowing things down. In the grand scale of the universe, an ASI may want exponential technological progression and we would just be an anchor to their future.
So, the big question all the people want to know is, how could an ASI wipe out humanity and why are some of the smartest people on earth so scared?
The general public don’t know everything AI is capable of as we’re not as close to the absolute cutting edge of AI research like Elon Musk, Demis Hassabis and Ray Kurzweil, but that doesn’t affect our understanding of what an ASI could do to cause a dystopian future.
Suggesting an ASI became smarter than all of humanity combined and was live on the internet, and this is not even a slight exaggeration… It could wipe out the entire human race in a matter of days. A fact that no one can argue with.
