LUZON LOCKDOWN OFFICIALLY EXTENDED UNTIL MAY 15TH, 2020
Duterte issued community quarantine for Luzon amid the virus pandemic which was swiftly extended into an ”Enhanced” community quarantine initially set from March 15 – April 15. This ECQ was then extended an additional two weeks to April 30, which is fast approaching.
With President Duterte set to address the nation later this evening, April 23, it’s expected that Manila will tackle its third lockdown extension.
The lockdown in Cebu City is officially getting extended until May 15 which was stated by Cebu City Mayor, Edgar Labella, who shared the news in a statement today on April 22, 2020.
Duterte will discuss the decision with the government task force tonight before address the nation according to his spokesperson, Harry Rogue.
The IATF‘s recommendations were to isolate certain areas of Manila and free up others, though this is still tentative, but their suggestions put fourth put Luzon into three categories, low, moderate and high-risk areas.
Should Duterte take this route, it could relax the lockdown in certain areas, keep it the same in others, while the higher-risk areas would potentially get tighter than they are now.
Duterte stated he would not lift the lockdown until there’s a vaccine or immunity drug, but realistically, that would take 12-month at best, so that option just isn’t viable.
The fate of Luzon rests in the hands of President Duterte who will be announcing decisions of the lockdown tonight.
